Are your eyes ready for Summer?

We love Summer! With Summer comes sunshine, but with sunshine comes UV - especially in our beautiful part of the world. We are accustomed to being sun smart with our skin, but it is also important to protect our eyes properly from harmful UV. So if you are looking for new sunglasses this Summer, it’s important to keep eye protection in mind as well as style.

UV can contribute to conditions such as cataract, pterygium, macular degeneration, and melanoma. When looking for sunglasses, it’s important to ensure they meet the Australian Standard for eye protection (AS 1067) in category 2, 3, or 4. These lenses absorb more than 95% of UV to prevent it reaching your eyes. Large, wrap-around, close fitting sunglasses are best at reducing reflected UV and polarised lenses help reduce glare.

At Local Eyes Optometrists, we stock a wide range of both prescription and non-prescription sunglasses that not only look good but more importantly protect your eyes properly. Our expert staff can also help advise you on special tints to enhance and optimise your vision for activities such as driving, golf, cycling, and fishing.
